OUR HISTORY

The Coolakin Creek vineyard was established in 1986 by Alan Robinson as a result of a visit to the area by Dr Tom Cullity, founder of world renowed Vasse Felix. The vineyard is situated 200km south of Perth on northerly facing gentle slopes. Following a review of historical rainfall, annual temparature variances and detailed soil analysis, Dr Cullity confirmed the area suitable to red varietals.

The vineyard was established using high quality west australian stock and prides itseld in it’s water quality management. Coolakin Creek was the first vineyard in Australia to irrigate with pure water produced from a reverse osmosis process and plant established on the property. Large tanks remain full and insure continuance and quality of water supply all year round.

Spookwood Wines Coolakin Creek vineyard supplied its entire production to Aquila until 2002 as its primary Cabernet producer. Following the change in direction of Aquila, Spookwood owners decided to acquire services of winemaker Andrew Spencer-Wright to produce the Spookwood 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon.

Spookwood Wines started supplementing its range in 2006 with a white variety that was consistent with the quality achieved through the Coolakin Creek Cabernet.

The property was bought by the Crump family who continued to develop the pair of Reserves – Cabernet Sauvignon and Blanc until 2017.

The property was sold to new owners in 2021 and was purchased by the Rattigan family in 2022 with a new vision.

OUR VISION

After falling in love with Spookwood in 2021, Mark, Emma and their family embarked on an exciting adventure of reviving Spookwood Wines while transforming the stunning 160-acre property into a Vineyard/Farm Stay experience with a range of accommodation options.

They started by renovating the Homestead, providing a cozy retreat for guests. With a vision for more, they also plan to offer free camping for self-sufficient campers and caravanners, as well as Glamping and Tiny Home options for those seeking a peaceful and picturesque getaway.

Disconnect and Reconnect

Our purpose is to provide a space for people to disconnect from busy city-life and technology, to enjoy some time reconnecting with nature, family, friends and the simpler things in life!

Whether it's long walks in nature, board games, feeding the farm animals, chatting by the fire or over a glass of wine - we want you to leave rejuvenated!

OUR TEAM

Meet Mark and Emma, two busy business owners who are always up for outdoor escapades and adventures. They have two amazing kids, Charlise and Cameron, who share their love for camping and exploring. For as long as they can remember, Mark and Emma had this little dream of owning "acreage in the hills" where their family could unwind and create lasting memories.

After years of searching they stumbled upon Spookwood, and it was love at first sight! Even though they were initially looking for something smaller, they couldn't resist the allure of Spookwood and in typical style they bit off more than they could chew!

This inspired the idea that instead of keeping Spookwood all to themselves, Mark and Emma wanted to share its beauty and charm with others, creating an incredible experience for all who visit.Spookwood was about to become a special haven for many, thanks to Mark and Emma's passion and vision.
